The languorous days of summer turned overnight into brisk fall, and a chill was in the air as I walked over to Willow Elementary School to resume my work with Emma, my 12-year-old "tutee." As I approached the office, the familiar sights and smells of school made me nostalgic about teaching. A retired university professor of education with long and extensive experience in the elementary school as well, I never lost the desire to teach--to continue to make a difference in the lives of my students. Tutoring in a local elementary school was just the ticket; I could offer my experience and resources to a child who needed learning assistance, while sating my appetite for doing what I loved.
